Dating to the first quarter of the 19th century, c.1820s, this exquisite bracelet fits neatly into the Georgian era. Gorgeously designed as a series of elongated engraved links and chain, with a finely detailed hand clasp and suspended heart charm. The hand, beautifully detailed with a ruby set ring on the little finger, a turquoise cabochon and scrolling leaf cuff. Push clasp concealed in the hand closes nice and tight. Safety chain also attached. The sweet heart charm is set with a matching turquoise and ruby forget me not flower. Turquoise was often used in Georgian jewellery and sent a lovely message to the receiver to ‘forget me not’ after the flower of the same name.

The hoop that is delicately clasped, isn’t just a hoop. Turn the hand over and discover fingers, thumb and another little knobbly delight with two tiny eyes. This is a snake. Snakes were a popular motif in Georgian jewellery to represent love and eternal fidelity.

So here we have a double play on remembering a loved one. More than likely originally given as a token of love and endearment. A fabulous example of antique English jewellery. The heart locket would originally have had a a glazed back and it has been filled. Please note the box shown is for demonstration purposes.
