Dating to the mid 20th century, c.1940s to 1960s, this exquisite piece is the first of its kind I’ve had the pleasure to find. Designed as a three panel mother of pearl bracelet set in Sterling grade silver. Each panel is detailed with three colourful insects and measures 16 mm x 23 mm. Their head and bodies formed from carved shell set in high relief and legs finely engraved and painted on the mother of pearl surface. The Shibayama technique was originally created by Onoki Senzo, an Edo haberdasher who lived during the 18th century. Suspended from sturdy silver chain and finished with a round push close clasp. Please note the box shown is for demonstration purposes.
Measurements: bracelet measures 17 cm or 6 3/4 inches long
Weighs: 19.29 grams
Hallmarks: marked Sterling for 925 grade silver
