This delightful and unusual antique jewel dates to the end of the 19th century, c.1890 – 1900, and fits neatly into the late Victorian era. Designed as an articulated fish pendant with cabochon eyes. The fish measures 25 mm x 5 mm, excluding the jump hoop and bail, and moves beautifully along his body, down to his swishy tail. Suspended as a slider pendant on a fine chain. With two foliate design cloak pin brooches. One brooch is claw set with a cushion cut sapphire and the other brooch is set with a round red spinel. The cloak pin brooches measure 23 mm and 20 mm long respectively. An exquisite quality piece that has been beautifully made I think with lovely attention to detail. Articulated fish jewels have been made and adapted over the past few centuries, yet a suspended pendant with cloak pins is highly unusual in my experience. I have not seen a piece quite like this before.
