Dating to 1784, this delightful Georgian jewel is a historical work of art, quintessential of a beautiful bygone era. Designed as a marquise shape pendant, with a finely detailed miniature painting behind a glazed panel. The subject depicts a neo-classical female figure seated next to a column with an urn, underneath a willow tree. These incredible details have been painstakingly hand painted with sepia colours. Typical of the second half of the eighteenth century, the subject is one of sentiment. This piece is likely to have been commissioned to mourn Ann Holliday, whose details are hand inscribed to the reverse, ‘Ann Holliday, ob 28 Dec 1784, aged 55’. Can also be worn as a brooch. Offered in exceptional condition for its age with only a few minor surface marks as would be expected. Please note the chain shown is for demonstration purposes only.
