This gorgeous antique Victorian brooch is claw set with a fine quality oval amethyst to the centre. The amethyst is a vibrant mid-purple hue and beautifully saturated. Measuring 18 mm x 14 mm it totals approximately 14 carats. Surrounded by creamy white pearls in trefoil shape clusters. These lustrous pearls measure 2 mm each and have been very well matched. The subtle geometric gold line detailing to the pendant is reminiscent of the Japanese woodblock prints which became highly fashionable at the end of the 19th century. This aesthetic piece can be worn as either a brooch or as a pendant. Please note the chain shown is used for demonstration purposes only. There is one tiny nibble present to the edge of the glazed back panel. Dates to c.1880-1900.
