A beautifully designed antique 18ct gold ring dating to the c.1840s, sitting between the late Georgian and early Victorian eras in England. Set with a central berry hue garnet and a halo of creamy white pearls. The ring face measures 13 mm x 11 mm. Flanked by sweet engraving to either shoulder and trefoil shape decorative openwork details. The delightful and endearing jewel is likely to have been given as a love token, suggested by the trefoils being reminiscent of ivy leaves. The ivy plant has held symbolic meaning since ancient times and in the language of flowers and plants it symbolises fidelity. Ultimately it is a symbol of eternal love. With a closed back setting. Please note one of the pearls shows evidence of an old resetting with glue, this does not detract from the overall beauty of the piece in my opinion. A fine example of antique English jewellery.
